Things to do in Venice

The Redentore

The third Sunday of July is dedicated to the Redentore Celebration. It is a highly valued holiday whereby Venetians commemorate the construction of the Redentore Church, built as a vow for Venice’s liberation from the Plague in the 16th century. During that Saturday evening, row boats, motorboats and ships of all kinds and sizes invade the waters, in the area between the Grand Canal and Giudecca island, turning the lagoon into a huge boat festival with music, drinks, and food. At thirty minutes before the clock strikes midnight,  a wonderful fireworks show illuminates the lagoon until midnight, but the party does not stop there, it continues till sunrise. A night not to be missed, as the whole city pulsates with energy.
